Midlands Co-op creates HR one-stop shop with MidlandHR

05-01-2007

Integrated system improves management information across 402 outlets

Midlands Co-op has successfully launched an in-house payroll system from MidlandHR. Using Trent software the Midlands based Co-operative Society of retail businesses has successfully combined the payroll capabilities for all 8,000 employees and 5,000 pensioners onto one system, providing a streamlined process and reduced duplication.

Faced with finding a new payroll solution, Midlands Co-op sought an integrated payroll and information system. William Abell, general manager personnel, Midlands Co-op, comments: “The decision to use Trent software was unanimous, as it suited our needs perfectly and MidlandHR specialises in payroll for organisations of our size. MidlandHR representatives worked closely with our internal steering group to ensure that the project ran smoothly. As a result, we achieved a successful payroll system launch in November, and we are due to start phase two, the implementation of the human resources management system, in March 2007”.

Mark Ruttley, head of IT at Midlands Co-op, adds: “As the second largest independent retailer in the Midlands and the third largest co-operative in the country, it became apparent that we needed to integrate all 402 trading outlets onto one system and we are scheduled to complete this during 2007. This will reduce administration and improve the quality of management information on overtime, productivity, absenteeism and staff turnover for all store managers.”

David Dryden, business development director, MidlandHR adds: “Midlands Co-op needed a solution to combine both payroll and HR functions, demonstrating that organisations are increasingly looking to integrate company processes to improve their running capabilities. “
